Why Online Lessons Work

The quality of the lesson
travels with you.

Online music lessons at SYNERGY are the real thing — not a compromise. The same skilled teachers, the same curriculum, the same approach. Whether you're a family in Brampton who prefers the convenience of home, or a student in another part of Ontario who wants SYNERGY's level of instruction, online lessons deliver exactly that.

Practical lessons and group theory are both available online — making it possible to complete a full lesson block, including back-to-back theory, without leaving home.

🗓️
Your regular time slot

Students in Brampton, the GTA, elsewhere in Ontario, and even internationally can access SYNERGY-quality instruction online.
Hybrid Lessons

Attend in-person or online —
your choice, every week.

Hybrid lessons mean that students who normally attend in-studio can seamlessly switch to online for any lesson — and then come back to the studio the following week without missing a beat. Same teacher, same time slot, no disruption.

Life happens. Hybrid lessons mean it doesn't have to affect your child's progress.

No advance notice required for hybrid switches — just let us know before the lesson time and we'll have the link ready.
When hybrid lessons come in handy:
🚗
Ride can't be arranged
A parent working late, a schedule conflict, or a car issue doesn't have to mean a missed lesson.
🤧
Student is a little under the weather
Well enough to play, but better to stay home? Online makes that easy — and keeps the studio healthy too.
❄️
Inclement weather & snow days
Brampton winters are real. When roads are bad, lessons still happen — from the warmth of home.
🏡
Just prefer to stay home today
No reason needed. If online works better for a particular week, that's always an option.

Getting Set Up

Simple setup — no fancy equipment needed.

One of the biggest hesitations families have about online lessons is thinking they need special equipment. You don't. A simple, stable setup is all it takes — and most families already have everything they need.

We actively encourage keeping things simple. Fussing with equipment before a lesson takes time away from playing. A device, a connection, a quiet space, and your instrument is genuinely all you need.

What you need:
💻
Device with camera & mic (phone, tablet, laptop)
📶
Reliable internet connection
🔇
A reasonably quiet space
🎵
Your instrument
📚
Your music books
You do NOT need:
Special software or apps
External microphones or cameras
Recording equipment
A perfectly quiet room
Recommended device positions by instrument:
🎹
Piano
1
Position your device to the side of the piano or keyboard, slightly above key level. This gives your teacher a clear view of both your hands and posture.
2
Angle the camera slightly downward toward the keys — your teacher needs to see hand position and fingering, not just your face.
3
Use a book, box, or stand to prop your device at the right height. A phone propped on a music stand works very well.
4
Make sure your face is also visible — teachers watch your expression and posture too, not just your hands.
💡 Piano tip: A tablet propped on a stand beside the keyboard, angled slightly down at the keys, is the most effective setup for most students.
🎸
Guitar & Bass
1
Position your device directly in front of you, far back enough to see your whole upper body — both hands, the neck, and your posture.
2
A slight angle toward your fretting hand can help your teacher see fingering on the neck more clearly.
3
Avoid backlit setups — don't sit with a bright window behind you. Good lighting on your hands makes a real difference.
💡 Guitar tip: Sitting in the centre of a room with a lamp or window light in front of you gives the clearest picture of your technique.
🎤
Voice
1
Position your device at face height, far back enough that your full upper body is visible — teachers watch breath support and posture, not just your face.
2
A quiet space matters most for voice — background noise makes it harder for your teacher to hear clearly. Closed doors help significantly.
3
Laptop or tablet built-in mics work fine for most students. A Bluetooth speaker or headphones with a mic can improve audio quality if needed.
💡 Voice tip: Stand or sit as you normally would in a lesson. The more natural your setup, the more useful the feedback.
🎻
Violin & Strings
1
Position your device in front of and slightly to the side — far enough back that your bowing arm is fully visible. Bow technique needs clear sightlines.
2
Your teacher needs to see your bow arm and left hand simultaneously. A wider shot is better than a close-up of just your instrument.
3
Good lighting is particularly helpful for violin — your teacher watches bow placement on the string, which can be hard to see in dim conditions.
💡 Strings tip: If possible, prop your device higher than usual — seeing the full bow arc requires a slightly elevated, wider view than other instruments.
Common Questions

Online lessons FAQs.

What instruments are available for online lessons?+
All of SYNERGY's music programs are available online — piano, guitar and bass, voice, violin, cello, viola, and music theory (both group and private). Every instrument and program offered in-studio is also available online.
What platform do you use?+
We use Zoom and Google Meet — both free, both work on any device. Your lesson link is emailed with every lesson reminder so you always have it ready without any searching.
What equipment do I need?+
You need your instrument, your music books, a device with a built-in camera and microphone (phone, tablet, or laptop all work fine), a quiet space, and a reliable internet connection. No special software, external microphones, or recording equipment is required. We actively encourage keeping it simple.
What is a hybrid lesson?+
Hybrid means students who normally attend in-studio can switch to online for any lesson — and return to the studio the following week without any disruption. It's the same teacher, the same time slot, just a different location for that lesson. Common situations include snow days, when a ride can't be arranged, or when a student is a bit under the weather but well enough to play.
Is theory available online?+
Yes — group theory classes and private theory lessons are both available online. This means you can do a full back-to-back lesson block (practical + theory) entirely from home if you choose.
Do online lessons cost the same as in-studio?+
Yes — online and in-studio lessons are the same price. You're getting the same teacher, the same lesson quality, and the same program regardless of where you attend.
Can students outside of Brampton register?+
Absolutely. Online lessons are available to students anywhere in Ontario and beyond. SYNERGY's online program has always welcomed students from across the GTA, the rest of Ontario, and even internationally.
